AI referrals

Visits to your site that come from AI assistants, read from Google Analytics 4, with engagement and conversions.

AI referrals shows the visits that arrive on your site from AI assistants such as ChatGPT or Perplexity. Visibility tells you whether AI names you. This page tells you whether people then click through. Connect your Google Analytics 4 property with Connect first (also under Settings, then Connected Apps, then Google Analytics 4).

The figures at the top

FigureWhat it means
Total sessionsA session is a visit to your website that begins when a user arrives and ends after 30 minutes of inactivity or at midnight. Only sessions attributed to an AI assistant are counted.
Engagement rateThe percentage of sessions that are engaged. A session is engaged if it lasts 10 seconds or longer, has one or more conversion events, or has two or more page views.
ConversionsKey events, as you set them up in GA4. Shown only if your property has key events.
Conversion rateThe percentage of sessions with one or more conversions.
RevenueRevenue from purchases, subscriptions and advertising, minus refunds. Shown only if your property has revenue.

Each shows the change against the previous period.

The rest of the page

  • AI traffic is a line chart by assistant. Switch Daily, Weekly or Monthly.
  • AI assistants and Conversions by assistant compare the assistants.
  • Channels shows where AI traffic sits among your other channels. Organic Search and Direct can hide AI visits (Google AI Overviews and AI Mode count as organic search in GA4, and some mobile apps send no referrer), so the number is a minimum.
  • The Landing pages tab shows which pages receive AI visits.

What to do next

Compare the landing pages with your most-cited pages on Pages. A cited page with no visits may need a clearer reason to click.
