AI visibility: a beginner's guide

What AI visibility is, what the app measures, and how to read your first numbers.

People now ask AI engines questions they used to type into a search box, such as "What is the best CRM for a small agency?". The answer names a few brands. AI visibility is how often yours is one of them.

What the app measures

The app asks your prompts on each engine you track, several times, and stores every full answer. From those answers it works out:

  • Visibility: the share of answers that name your brand.
  • Position: when you are named, your average place among the brands you track. 1 is first.
  • Share of voice: your mentions as a share of all mentions of the brands you track.
  • Cited as a source: the share of answers that link to a page on your website.
  • Sentiment: how answers describe you when they name you.

What each figure means has the exact definitions, and the glossary lists every term in one line.

How to read the first numbers

  1. Start with Visibility. Zero is normal for a new or small brand: Why is my visibility zero?
  2. Look at who is named instead of you on the Competitors page.
  3. Treat a single run as a snapshot. Engines give different answers each time, so the app repeats each prompt and shows a range. How accurate are the numbers?
  4. Check the Actions list for what to do next. About the fix list
