AI Overview trigger rate

The share of your prompts' Google searches that show an AI Overview, and how to check it again.

AI Overview trigger rate is the share of your prompts' Google searches where Google shows an AI Overview. A high rate means more of your searches put an AI answer above the usual results.

Where to find it

On Competitors, Visibility tab, under the web search rate. Without the Perception page it sits on the Overview, Engines tab, under the engine rows.

It reads as one line: the name, a bar, the rate and a count such as 11 of 19 searches.

How it is worked out

Searches where Google shows an AI Overview, out of searches checked. Each prompt's search phrase is searched once per market, so two prompts with the same phrase count as one search. The newest result for each search is used.

Hover the "?" for what was left out:

  • searches that could not be read (never counted as "no AI Overview")
  • searches not checked yet
  • prompts with no search phrase yet
  • prompts in a market Google search cannot be set to

The market filter at the top of the page applies.

Check it

Choose Find trigger rate the first time, or Check again later. A window shows how many searches it will run and how many checks that uses, before anything runs. Choose Find trigger rate in the window to start.

Each search uses one check from your month's checks. A search that fails uses none. Clients and the demo project can read the rate but cannot start a check.

If the window says No prompt has a search phrase yet, find search demand for your prompts first: see Topics and gaps. The phrase that lookup used is the one searched here.

What to do next

Where most of your searches show an AI Overview, AI Overviews matter more to you than the classic results. Compare your visibility in AI Overviews with other engines on Competitors.
