Sources and competitors

Where AI gets its answers, how competitors are compared, and how to find pages worth getting onto.

Sources

Sources are the websites AI relies on when it answers your prompts. Seeing them shows where competitors are gaining visibility and where you could be.

The Sources page lists every website the engines cited in your answers. Websites are grouped by type: your site, competitors, forums and social, editorial, reference, and reviews and directories.

Opportunities shows sites that are cited alongside your competitors but rarely with you. These are the pages most worth getting onto. The Pages to get onto tab lists the specific pages.

Searches the engine ran

Some engines search the web before they answer, and report the searches they ran (ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini do). The Engine searches tab lists them. These show the real wording that leads to answers, which is often a better guide to the pages you need than your own prompts.

Competitors

The Competitors page compares you with the brands you track on visibility, share of voice, position, sentiment and how often each is cited, with a change since the last run. It also shows share of voice over time and, for each competitor, where they appear and you do not.

Competitors come from three places: ones you add, suggestions drafted when you set up the project, and brands the app has seen named in your answers. Share of voice only counts the brands you track, so adding the right competitors changes it.
