Personas

Describe who is asking, label prompts with a persona, and see how answers change when the engines are asked as that person.

A persona describes the person asking an AI engine a question, for example "I run a small accounting firm and I'm looking for software my two staff can learn in a day." Add personas to your prompts to see how mentions and visibility change by who is asking.

Add a persona

  1. Open Settings, then Themes and personas, and find the Personas card.
  2. Choose Add a persona. Give it a Name and a Short description of up to 300 characters.
  3. Press Save.

Describe the person, not stage directions, and leave your brand out. A project can have up to 10 personas. Remove deletes one.

Label prompts with a persona

  • On Prompts, tick the prompts, then pick a persona from Persona in the bar that appears. No persona takes the label off.
  • Suggest prompts can also write prompts for a persona: pick one under Persona (optional).
  • The All personas filter on Prompts shows only the prompts with the personas you pick, or those with No persona.

Asked as a persona

On each run, a persona that has a description is also asked the prompts labelled with it. The engine gets the description as the opening line, then the prompt unchanged. Each prompt is asked once as the persona on each of its engines, except engines whose input is a search rather than a question, such as Google AI Overviews.

  • These answers are kept apart. They are not counted in your headline figures, trends, fixes or reports.
  • They do count as checks used. If they do not fit in what is left of your allowance, the run leaves them all out, and the run's notes say so.

See Plans, checks and limits.

By persona

When a project has personas, a By persona card sits under the Prompts table. Each row shows a persona, its number of prompts and its visibility, best first, with No persona last. Choose a persona's name to filter the page to it.

Where persona answers exist, As persona shows the same prompts asked as that persona, beside the figure for everyone. Hover it for the detail, for example how many answers named you.

What to do next

A persona that gets a lower figure than everyone is an audience the engines do not connect with you. Read those answers on Prompts, then write for that person on your own pages.
